This track was first recorded during "The Only Way Out is Up" EP sessions at Crescendo Sound Studios in Gainesville, FL sometime in early 2012.
"Runaway was maybe the first song I ever wrote on a piano...Which is ironic because there is no piano in the current recording.
I woke up one morning with the chorus in my head. I played around with the chord structure until I got it right. The rest of the song I worked on every morning for a week or two until it felt right.
At Crescendo they had this old upright piano in the live room. While Matt [Reynolds] was doing some editing in the control room I began playing this song, thinking that no one was listening.
He came in and said, "let's record that song!" I said "Right now?" He said, "Absolutely!"
Matt and the intern, Dylan, setup the drums and some microphones, and arranged it so that Matt and I were facing each other while he played the drums and I sang and played the piano.
For awhile we just jammed on the chords and the vibe...Then all of a sudden something came over the room. It was indescribable. The air changed...You could feel a presence in the room that wasn't there before. The track stopped recording suddenly and Matt and I looked at each other, thinking the same thing.
He counted off, "1-2-3-4" ...and the rest is history."

RUNAWAY
by Mikei
If you want to Runaway, well go ahead,
Cause I can't live like this anymore
If you want to Runaway…
Every time I come around you're nowhere near to be found and
The only words I hear you speak are, "leave a message after the sound"
Well,
Slow down, Slow down
We're fast approaching another major fall out
Slow down, Slow down
You been waiting, here's your chance
If you want to Runaway, well go ahead,
Cause I can't live like this anymore
If you want to Runaway, well go 'head!
Cause I can't live like this,
No I can't live like this
Any-more, anymore, anymore
When I asked you, "how did all of this mess we're in come about?"
Silence fell upon your lips with both eyes shifted to the ground
Well,
Slow down, Slow down
We're fast approaching another major fall out
Slow down, Slow down
You been waiting, here's your chance
If you want to Runaway, well go ahead,
Cause I can't live like this anymore
If you want to Runaway, well go 'head!
Cause I can't live like this,
No I can't-
If you want to Runaway, well go ahead,
Cause I can't live like this anymore
If you want to Runaway, well go 'head!
Cause I can't live like this,
No I can't live like this,
Any-more, anymore, anymore
